On the 13th and 14th of October 2025 the Junior Researcher Retreat took place at the Hotel Schützenhof in Eitorf. The event brought together our early-career scientists for two inspiring days of exchange, scientific input, and discussions.
The retreat focused on two main components: a scientific program and a brainstorming session of how needs of young researchers in our CRC1238 could be addressed in the future.
During the scientific sessions, participants presented their work through talks and a lively poster session, fostering valuable discussions and feedback across projects. The harmonious and comfortable atmosphere encouraged almost everybody to speak up and bring in their questions and ideas.
In the brainstorming or “Ideas Lab” session, we split up into five groups to gather ideas for future projects and possible improvements to our CRC.
Similar to the previous year, we gathered a wealth of new ideas and input for future initiatives. Many of which we are excited to explore in the upcoming months.
Next to the hard work of the participants, there was also time for social activities and bonding moments. Some agility and guessing games, a pup quiz and a small walk along the river Sieg fostered relationships in and between different groups and departments.
As part of the retreat, we also held the election of the new Junior Researcher Council. Ella Nikodem, Daniel Jansen and Cornelius Dietrich will continue to serve on the council, while Sagar Ramchandani stepped down from his role. Thank you for your hard work and valuable input during the last year!
We are pleased to welcome Reza Doostani as the newest member of the team!
Overall, the retreat was a great success, and the feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. We look back on two productive and enjoyable days filled with engaging discussions, new connections, and shared enthusiasm for our ongoing research.
